Under certain circumstances the Nevada State Contractors Board will waive the state specific trade examination requirement and the experience certification process requirement for applicants that qualify for licensure by endorsement. These waivers are granted for applicants who are licensed in states determined by Nevada to have substantially equivalent requirements.
In order to apply for licensure by endorsement you must meet the following minimum requirements:
Hold an active license in the endorsing state, with the same qualified individual, for the past four (4) Years.
Not been investigated for misconduct as a contractor or had a license revoked modified, limited, suspended or otherwise disciplined by any state or jurisdiction in which you are or were licensed.
Not have any disciplinary action or proceedings pending against you by any state or jurisdiction in which you are or were licensed.
If your endorsing state does not offer an equivalent trade examination, you will be required to pass the state specific examination in Nevada.
Please review the state license equivalency chart to determine if you are eligible to be relieved of the trade examination and experience certification requirement based on endorsement by another state.
Your qualified individual will be required to pass the Nevada Business and Law examination.
How to Apply for Licensure by Endorsement
- Review the State License Equivalency Chart to determine your eligibility.
- Contact your endorsing state and have them complete the Request for Verification of License form.
- Include the completed form with your application at the time of submittal.
- Include the required information about your license on the application form in the section titled Licensure by Endorsement.
NASCLA Accredited Examination
If you have passed the NASCLA Commercial General Building Contractor Examination, Nevada will waive the state specific trade examination if you are applying for a general building classification. You may verify your passing score by accessing NASCLA’s National Examination Database (NED) to purchase and electronically send your transcript to the Board.
Note: Licensure by endorsement applies only to the trade examination requirement and/or the experience qualification requirement. All other required documentation must be provided with your application.
