Nevada state law prohibits the Nevada State Contractors Board (NSCB) from issuing a license under the following circumstances:
NRS 624.254 Issuance or renewal of license under name likely to result in confusion or mistake prohibited. No license may be issued or renewed by the Board under a name which:
- Is the same as the name of another licensee;
- So resembles the name of another licensee that the Board determines that it is likely to result in confusion or mistake; or
- The Board determines is likely to mislead the general public.
Before registering a company with the Nevada Secretary of State, it is highly recommended you review the NSCB website to determine if an existing company is using the same name or a similar name.

The NSCB cannot guarantee the use of a name.
When searching for a name, search all possible scenarios. Examples provided below:

| Mountain vs. Mt | Extreme vs. Xtreme |
Words that may cause confusion:
“building” vs. “construction”
Example: Patriot Contracting/Construction will cause confusion with the name Patriot Builders/Building
